It was passion that drove Deval Tibrewalla to set up the Chrome hotel under the Chocolate group of Hotels banner. The dynamic 24 year old CEO envisioned a hotel that was staffed by people who were happy. None of the plastic smiles that were the hallmark of the everyday five star would do for Chrome; its facilities had to be unconventional and its staff genuinely happy. In a short span of time he realised his vision. Chrome was set up as a boutique five star hotel in the urban centre of Kolkata. When it was time to launch the digital brand, it was DZINE’s work that convinced him that he had found an agency that would match this enthusiasm.

Our intent was to bring out the vibrancy of the concept into the digital realm. We started at the basics. What better way to embody and showcase the spirit of the hotel, than a site that mirrors the actual experience? On this note we set about to create a visually captive site for the client. The unconventional architecture of the hotel, its myriad lights arranged in a Swiss cheese pattern across the visage of the building and the rich interiors all became elements of the site. Such detailed thought to construction demanded equal detailing in presentation online and Flash was the technology of choice. The vibrancy that Chrome injected into its surroundings on ACJ Bose street was brought to the web. An oft heard complaint when working with flash content was the speed at which sites loaded. DZINE first task was to ensure that the site would perform at par, if not better, with the standard HTML sites. To this effect we optimised the site by segmenting the code. We arranged the load sequence in such a way that the landing page loaded quickly and the remaining modules in the background. With this segmented coding and serialised loading, the website was quicksilver compared to variants. An ingenious sort order takes care of loading the rich content in the background according to use patterns.

About 100 high resolution shots of the hotel, its extensions, facilities and interiors made up the body of the site. It was ordered and framed to blend and contrast alternately into the user experience. We structured the content and highlighted the strengths of the hotel.  A module was developed for the real time content and integrated with Word Press. With a few quick training sessions the administrators at Chrome were able to update the section almost instantaneously. User management was also built into the same module.

The hotel’s online booking service, provided for by a third party, was integrated into the site. Our team never rests at just done and we had to carry on. To give the potential customer a feel of the hotel and its environs we built in a real time weather module and two extensive virtual tours. Info about the hotel made up one and places of interest around the hotel the other.

We detailed the site with care. The music on the site was matched to that playing at the hotel. The site’s fluid transition from eclectic to surreal swathes looks to match the customers experience as he walks through the different areas of the hotel.

Our client had a vision when they approached DZINE for this digital exercise, one that DZINE can proudly claim to have made a reality. To have a virtual walk around Chrome, visit them here.
